Intangible Cultural Heritage

Sek Pun

supported by the Intangible Cultural heritage Funding scheme, the government of the HKSAR

In the New Territories, it is customary to share a communal meal during special events like weddings and birth celebrations. This event, known as “Sek Pun,” brings clan members together and strengthens their sense of identity.

In this transdisciplinary research project that combines community engagement, oral history, and geographic information system (GIS) mapping, the MHRC team is documenting these vibrant traditions and uncovering their social and cultural significance. The team has integrated a wide range of archival, visual, and oral materials to study the historical origins and social functions of these practices.
